Preparing food
- need to know

When it comes to preparing food, food safety is a big deal. Everyone in the food industry needs to make sure their food is safe and suitable and of no risk to the community.

If you want to process and/or sell food on site then you need to meet some regulations and register your business with Council or the Ministry for Primary Industries.

In a nutshell, anyone setting up a new food business or changing ownership of an existing business will need to register under the Food Act 2014 before they start selling food. There's a whole heap of information on this on the the Ministry of Primary Industries wesbite or you can make an appointment with one of our Environmental Health Officers who can tell you all you need to know.

Preparing food from home requires the same rules to be followed as preparing food in a restaurant.

Did you know? Food poisoning strikes about 200,000 New Zealanders every year?!
